Contours of an urban Architectural Anthropology: City Climate, Built Environment and Socio-Material Practices in Chongqing (Southwest China)
This talk sketches an urban architectural anthropology which links the material structure of the house with the socio-cultural practices of housing. Based on ethnographic fieldwork data collected in Chongqing in 2017, it outlines an urban architectural anthropology around three key features: 1.) consideration of the materiality of architecture; 2.) ethnography as main data gathering method; and 3.) architecture as process, not as static object.
